The new outdoor living area behind this Sewickley home incorporates everything any homeowner would want in their back yard: a refreshing swimming pool, a cozy pool house, and plenty of patio space to host family and friends.
Working with a blank slate—and only requesting the preservation of a large tree—the homeowners turned to Robert Grunden of Grunden Landscaping to transform their back yard into a useable outdoor living area. “The tree serves as a great focal point, especially at night when the landscape lighting is on,” Grunden says. “This courtyard area, paired up with the living space in the pool house, really sets the tone in the back yard.”
Grunden started with the 18×36-foot pool, which features water jets with fiber optic lighting and spectacular views of the hillside. The nearby cedar pool house boasts a massive stone veneer fireplace topped with a television—the perfect spot for watching football on Sundays.
A variety of pavers from R.I Lampus set the tone of the patio. Grandview pavers in three sizes were laid in a random pattern, with Holland stone inlays and Stratford stones in a dark Anthracite color for dimension and character. Unique details such as border treatments and herringbone patterns create visual interest throughout the space.
