The symphony orchestra typically consists of four groups of musical instruments: the strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. Each instrument plays an integral role in the overall creation of the rich, beautiful music that evokes a range of emotions from its listeners. Interior design shares many of these same characteristics. Everything from furniture and accessories, to art and lighting, work in tandem to create a cohesive space, whether it is a sleek contemporary design or a room with elegantly traditional touches.
The 2017 DPVA Designers’ Show House is the perfect venue to showcase a wide variety of home decorating ideas, developed by some of the Miami Valley’s most talented interior designers. This year’s fundraising event took place at the Delco Lofts in the heart of downtown Dayton. While each apartment featured its own unique style, the Housetrends’ staff noticed a few common elements sprinkled throughout, leading to an eclectic mix of living room designs.
What’s underfoot matters
An eye-catching area rug with a bold pattern, geometric print, luxurious texture or a brilliant pop of color can completely transform a simple room into a beautifully decorated space. The polished concrete floors flowing throughout the apartments in Delco Lofts created the perfect blank canvas, allowing the interior designers to let their imaginations run wild.

Artistic expressions
Art speaks to everyone in different ways. Selecting the perfect piece for your home is such a personal decision—it truly comes from the heart. The interior designers utilized the expansive walls and tall ceilings to make a statement with everything from colorful, oversized wall art to strategically placed groupings of contemporary abstracts in various sizes. Local artists were also prominently featured thanks to one-of-a-kind accessories and furniture pieces.

Blue is the go-to color in 2017. From rich navy to cobalt with a hint of gray, shades of blue are popping up everywhere. The interior designers who participated in this year’s event proved that blue sets the tone for sultry and luxuriously inviting living spaces.
