An eye-catching contemporary fireplace serves as the focal point of this outdoor living space in Mason. The driving factor for the renovation was the original view. “When the homeowners entertained on their old patio they stared right into the side entry garage of the neighbor’s house,” says Mark Rhodus, president of Two Brothers Brick Paving Company. “The fireplace blocks that view and, whether you’re sitting out on the patio, or inside in the kitchen or living room, you are able to enjoy the fire.”
The design of the fireplace was especially important to the homeowners. They turned to Snyder Brick & Block to purchase the stone for the fireplace surround. They selected Dimensional Ledgestone in Copper to complement the 60-inch linear gas fireplace. The fireplace was then topped with Brazilian Ipe to complete the dramatic focal element.
The fireplace anchors the cozy new pavilion that features a pine ceiling stained to match the Ipe and electric heating elements that can be controlled by a smartphone.
The original concrete patio was replaced with Turkish travertine pavers and outdoor curtains were installed along the outer cedar-wrapped pillars to block out the sun on hot days.
