With typical holiday and family gatherings ranging from 50 to 70 people or more, adding space for entertaining was the driving force to remodel for homeowners Rick and Leah in Pickerington. So, these homeowners put their landscpae ideas to good use and created an outdoor entertaining hub suitable for all.
On a scenic nine-acre property close to family and friends, the homeowners wanted to expand their home to gain the additional space and amenities they desired. “We love this setting and property so we decided to remodel instead of move,” Rick said. They selected Nicholson Builders of Columbus for the job after interviewing several architects and design firms. “We just gravitated toward Nicholson Builders,” Rick remarked. “We felt most comfortable with them and their ideas.”
The homeowners wanted a design to accommodate their large family for indoor and outdoor entertaining throughout the year, yet have their house still feel like a home. “The major goal of this project was to create spaces to be able to handle large groups of people for family gatherings, and to do that without the spaces being cold or uninviting,” explains Bill Nicholson, President of Nicholson Builders, “and to create a space that the children and grandchildren would want to gather in for many years.”
The sprawling back yard has plenty of green space for the kids to run around and play, while the covered pavilion offers shaded seating for any of those who wish ot simply sit back and watch the action.
The across the yard, a stone fire pit is surrounded by chairs and ample standing room. This particular feature allows the family to enjoy the outdoors, no matter what the weather is.
Upon completion of the projecy, Nicholson remarked, “It was great to work for a family that was investing financially in a property to make it accessible for other people. The focus was always on other people. They wanted to do for others, before themselves. It was much more about doing this for family and friends coming together, not for them. It was awesome to be a part of that.”
