Warm and welcoming, this Chagrin Falls kitchen is a place of laughter and love. “There are definitely lots of memories made there for sure,” says homeowner Emeil Soryal.
As founder of Kitchen & Bath, Etc., Emeil knows a thing or two about design trends. In fact, he often tries out bold ideas in his own home; that way, he says, when he wants to try something new and exciting for his clients, they can see it first.
The unusually shaped custom window, nestled snugly behind the stove where a backsplash would usually reign, is a true head-turner. During the day the family can gaze dreamily out at the back yard, but at night the window turns into a dazzling dark reflective surface that contrasts sharply with the true backsplash, a simple collection of 3×6 subway tiles, that covers the next wall over. This bold choice was an easy way to bring the outdoors into the kitchen. “I love nature and natural products,” says Emeil. “You can’t mimic that look in a machine.”
The granite countertops reflect that sentiment as well. The hypnotizing material can be seen on the perimeter counters as well as the six-foot island. A river sink winds its way through the island, perfectly placed for entertaining purposes.
“It’s a live-in, good-functioning kitchen,” Emeil says. “It’s the heart of the house; all of the activities happen right in the kitchen.”
