When they sent the last of their six children off to college, Jeanne and Brian Jonard of Nashport, Ohio made some changes to their home resulting in, among other things, new his and her office suites. Jeanne selected bright and cozy home office ideas that make spending the day working something to look forward to.
Formerly the dining room of their original house, Jeanne’s office is a smaller space with modern flair and traditional accompaniments. The custom built-in cabinetry brightly painted in crushed berry sets the stage. “I wasn’t sure if I was brave enough to do it,” Jeanne explains of the attention-grabbing hue. But designer Cheryl Stauffer of Crimson Design Group encouraged her color choice, and Jeanne proceeded—enduring a few sideways looks from workers in the process, she recalls. The colors and design of the desk chair, rug and art pieces complement the cabinetry and fill out the room’s whimsical style and bright palette.
A beloved walnut desk designed and built by Jeanne’s father, Jim Weber, and a wood framed chair of her grandparents, one she remembers from her parents’ home, add a heartfelt family touch. “It’s a special collection of personal things, new and old, that mean a lot to me,” she says of her office. Jeanne’s office is her uplifting space. “I love it. I tell everyone if I have to sit there and pay bills, I can at least feel happy about it.”
