Homeowners Robin and Fred took advantage of the lush view that they had of the Trillium Trail when undergoing their bathroom remodel with Natalia Dragunova, of Notion, LLC.
“This whole portion of the master bathroom suite had to be remodeled, so we figured we might as well change walls, move things around, and take advantage of the spectacular view,” says Robin. “The house backs up to Trillium Trail which is a great buffer zone, because zoning doesn’t allow you to build on it.” The couple likes a contemporary flare, but wanted to keep the elements used in their bathroom remodel unique.
Dragunova used concrete countertops with integrated sinks for a smooth and almost earthy feeling. It was then mirrored on the back wall with contemporary and shimmery tile. Originally, they wanted to carry the cement up the walls but decided that the weight of it would be a factor and went with tile.
It was important to the couple to keep their own separate spaces. The designer came up with the idea of a central pole, which works as a privacy divider and provides power at the same time. “This is her side, and that’s my side, and we each have our own water closet too,” says Fred. Corbett light fixtures were used to throw in a splash of surprise. In keeping beat with the rest of the room, they are a perfect blend of rustic and contemporary.
The oversized Kohler Jacuzzi tub was floated directly in front of a huge picturesque window that defines the space. Bringing the outdoors inside, it is a heavenly retreat to sip a glass of wine after a long day of work. “In a way, the window became a changeable piece of artwork,” points out Dragunova. “With the change of seasons, you always get to look out at a new painting.”
Fred also points out the coffee bar which sits above the wet bar area. “This was my contribution to the project. Being that it’s a full master bedroom suite, why would we want to get up and walk all the way over to the kitchen for our morning coffee,” he jokes. With the flick of a switch, the couple can enjoy an after dinner drink or a cappuccino. Under cabinet lighting gives the floor a shimmer and adds a romantic feeling to the room.
The shower is a full Kohler DT2 system, which is Kohler’s top of the line, steam shower. “When meeting Fred for the first time, he asked me to find an amazing shower with all of the bells and whistles that I could find,” says Dragunova. “The only thing missing are dryer vents to dry off your body.”
Much like the bathtub, the shower is oversized to accommodate Fred’s physique. It has a built-in relaxation area where you can sit back and relax while using the steam shower. Everything is better with music, so the couple had a wireless, Sonos stereo system installed.
Robin and Fred travel extensively and have stayed at some of the most beautiful hotels and luxurious resorts around the world. But at the end of the day, they are most content when in their own surroundings, especially with the new bathroom remodel. As they say, there’s no place like home.
