Q. What is the most important thing a homeowner needs to know before they start a remodeling project?
A. Anthony Carrino “The most important piece of advice that I give to every client, and it’s the reason we started our podcast, is planning. For our television shows, for 30 minutes of TV, the project is a three, four or five-day build. That means eight weeks of planning so we can execute that quickly. So when people are doing a home renovation of any size, I really say three months to four months is your planning process before you start making a mess.”
Q. Do you have a favorite project you have worked on?
A. John Colaneri “It was five years ago now. Superstorm Sandy hit New Jersey. Being from New Jersey, it was a big emotional impact to us. We teamed up with Ellen DeGeneres, and we did an entire house renovation in five days for these two first responders that had five feet of water in their house. The best part about it was they were supposed to have their wedding two weeks later after Superstorm Sandy. But their venue was totally destroyed. They had their wedding at their house, and it was great. And, honestly, it gives me chills to this day.”
Q. Do you ever run into issues with reality when it comes to your types of shows and how customers view pricing?
A. Anthony Carrino “All. The. Time. I think that some channels do homeowners an injustice in the sense that they are not conveying what things cost. And not only does the product cost money, but you have labor involved in that, too. That’s why John and I love the education process so much, because it really is important to educate people on how much these things cost.”
