A magnificent butcher block counter spanning the top of the eight-foot island is the star of the show in this remodeled kitchen in Slate Lick. “It really is the belle of the ball,” says Tom Podgorski of Kept Co. “The natural beauty of the wood helps to establish the country-modern style we wanted to achieve.”
The homeowners hired Kept Co., along with Distinctly U Kitchen & Bath, to spearhead the renovation. By removing a wall and a rarely used desk area, they were able to gain an additional 400 square feet in the kitchen. Rather than simple white cabinetry, the homeowners opted for a custom sky blue hue for the maple cabinets. “There’s enough color to tell that it is blue, but it is light enough to blend in beautifully with the décor,” says Podgorski.
Other highlights include the rich espresso hardwood flooring that brings out the dark finish of the bar cabinetry and the recessed range accented by the marble backsplash laid in a herringbone pattern. “This kitchen fits the homeowners’ wants and needs,” says Podgorski. “It is distinctly their style.”
