How did you get involved in furniture and interior design?
As a third generation “furniture guy” Daniel opened his first store in 1991. As we continued to grow and evolve, we opened ID Cincinnati in 2012 to provide specific answers for our client’s home interior needs. By the way, ID in our name stands for interior design.
How do you make a homeowner feel comfortable before hiring an interior designer and investing in new furniture?
This one is easy. We don’t charge for our design services. If we don’t “nail it,” you don’t buy it. We invest the effort to put together a room without collecting one dime upfront. Our designers take the time to understand who our clients are, how they live and what is important to them in their home. Every room is different and catered to the client’s wants and dreams.
What is a trend you are excited about?
Wallpaper is back and in a big way. The new generation paper is less expensive, there are more options and it’s easier to remove when you are ready to give the room a new look.
Let’s say I am buying a sofa. How do I know it’s a quality piece?
Quality used to be defined by “built to last.” Does anyone want a 300-pound sofa from 1990 because it was built like a tank, lol? Now, quality is more about the look, the comfort, the finishes and filling materials, how the sofa makes you feel–not how you will feel about it in 20 years. I’ll give you a hint, you won’t still be in love with it. On a serious note, the fabric selected causes the greatest variance on price.
What colors are you seeing a lot of right now? Is grey here to stay?
We don’t believe everyone in Cincinnati wants a color because NY or LA says it’s the new cool color. Plus, our clients don’t want to repaint every year. We use current trends as a guide, but color invokes different emotions, and we want the client to feel comfortable in their home.
What do you recommend as a starting point when furnishing a room?
Inspiration. Clients should find something that inspires them. Artwork, nature, a piece of fabric, or colors, etc. An ID Cincinnati designed room will have a “feel” to it that reflects the client’s style, tastes, way of living and personality.
Due to Covid-19, we communicate often via phone and email, but offer safe visits in our 8,500 sq. ft. showroom.
